Shabby Chic Decorating

We have a little downstairs loo in our hallway downstairs, and it's a *little* bit dated... as you can see from the above picture. But nothing thats too hard to fix up, and it deffo has potential. I really want to do it in shabby chic style, I'm thinking take out that tiny little cabinet and replace it with a big cabinet, to fill the space on that wall, painted white and distressed, with glass in the doors, with beautiful vintage tins inside (but visible through the glass) for storage of stuff. I already bought a beautiful tin from a car boot last summer, for like a pound - it's a kind of duck egg blue colour with pink accents. It stores my shoe cleaners and shoe polishes and is the perfect size.

Here it is - not the best photo but you get the idea.

I will be on the look out this spring at car boots for more vintage tins to hold our medicines, tablets, plasters etc, and cleaning stuff. Plus some other cool bits!

I'll make a gorgeous blind for the window, to replace the far-too-big one thats there, and replace the taps and loo seat. The cool Thomas Crapper metal wall sign will stay, I love that, and it has a retro feel about it.

My niece bought me this Soap and Glory hand wash and hand cream set for Xmas, I'm keeping it until the room is finished and I think it will complement the look of the room well!

The tiles under the sink are a bit grim, mainly white but some have floral patterns. I shall scrub clean and then paint with while tile paint, and the walls will also be prepared and then painted, maybe duck egg blue. I think the colour scheme will be duck egg blue and red.

Finally, I want a big beautiful mirror for the wall opposite the window, something like one of these!!

I saw loads of these mirrors at car boots last summer for just a few pounds, I wish I had bought one, as knowing my luck I won't see any now I want one!!

All this will be done on as small a budget as possible, I'll be scouring car boots come spring, and maybe ebay if I have to for the wall cabinet. I'm planning on buying a cheap one thats like bright orange pine or something, and just painting it.

I can't wait! I shall post piccies once I start doing it!

oohhh sounds so good, I can't wait to see how you get on. You've got such great ideas. In one of the many house magazines I'm addicted too LOL - They had a wall full of mirrors too in the hallway, all vintage looking, and it looked so good. Really like that little tin of your's - you've got a great eye for picking up things at car boot sales. x
